How to use perfume: a few practical details
In this guide
How you use perfume depends on its format, your surroundings and your preferences. A few practical principles can help you get to know a scent and find an application routine that suits you.
Start with a suitable scent and a small amount
Try a few directions until you find one you enjoy. Begin with less product and notice how you feel and how the scent fits your surroundings. A larger amount does not always give a more pleasant result.
Consider sprays and oils separately
Sprays distribute perfume through an atomiser, while oils are applied directly. Follow the individual product instructions rather than a single rule for every perfume. Applying either format to fabric may leave marks.
Consider other people
At work, on public transport or in small rooms, more restrained application may be more comfortable for others. Assess your fragrance again after a while before applying more.
Store it properly
Close the bottle securely and protect it from direct sunlight, heat and sudden temperature changes. Follow the individual product labelling for storage and expiry information.
Combining fragrances
Layering is a personal experiment rather than a guarantee of longer wear. You do not need to use several scented products together. Get to know one fragrance first and follow the instructions for each product.
